Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan - ILLITE was inspired to rhyme around 1994-95. He played around with writing verses here and there, but really didn't take it seriously until 2000-2001 when he got his start under Onebelo's Subterraneous Records. He made his debut on Subterraneous' "WATERWORLD TOO" album in 2001. As a part of the SUB Crew he became a more seasoned artist and performer. He did shows around the Metro Detroit area, Seattle, Minneapolis, Wisconsin and Chicago and opened up for the likes of De la Soul, Mos Def, Jurassic 5, Slum Village, Redman and others. In 2006, he partnered with DJ Phrikshun (aka Octane, now RoSpit) to put together the "FORGOTTEN CHOSEN" project which eased him into the spotlight a little more. The duo made a name for themselves around Michigan for having incredible chemistry in their live stage show . Fast forward to 2008, ILLITE felt it was time to put forth a solo effort, Creme' de la Creme'.
"I chose that title because throughout the years I've always felt like I was on a journey, trying to figure out exactly what I wanted out of life and out of the music I created. In the end I would say I want the best, who doesn't? Why settle for less? Make the best music I can make and live life the best way I see fit, hence "Creme' de la Creme', 'Cream of the Crop' or 'Best of the Best'." The future -I'm leaving in GOD's hands. It took me 20+ years to get to this point. I work off inspiration and when or however it hits me - I just feed off that." -Illite
Also in 2008, ILLITE co-founded Kic Sounds with fellow artist FES ROC along with D-Roc and Zhao-Ski who manage the daily operations of the company. In early 2009, ILLITE's underground project (Creme...) caught the ear of a high profiled producer, Baby Paul ( formerly of Da Beatminerz ),who produced tracks for Black Moon, Smif-n-Wesson, Heltah Skeltah, Fat Joe, AZ, & Nas. After successfully securing a deal with Baby Paul's Divine Order Entertainment, ILLITE released a mixtape hosted by Nick Speed entitled, "The Champion Mixtape". This mixtape showcases his lyricism and versatility, which is now available for free download and to prepare listeners for the forthcoming album, courtesy of Kic Sounds/D.O.E. in 2010.
