THE DUNKXCHANGE STORY began in June of 2005 after founder Gary Hughes lost several hundred dollars buying counterfeit shoes from on-line sites. He made it his mission to create a space where people could buy, sell, and trade vintage, customized, and exclusive sneakers on a large scale face to face. With sneaker culture reaching new heights and expanding daily, Dunkxchange has evolved beyond a show, into an event that highlights the city’s sneaker scene.
THE DUNKXCHANGE TODAY has visited New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Honolulu, Chicago, Washington D.C., Houston, Atlanta, Boston, and San Francisco. The event pulls 1,000-2,000 attendees at each stop. Due to the overwhelming response from the sneaker community, this year Dunkxchange added Las Vegas All-Star Weekend, Chicago and Miami to the list of stops. Notable long-term sponsors include Famous Stars & Straps, ISkins, Active Ride Shop, Supra, SneakTip, LRG, Orisue, Shady Records, , Female Sneaker Fiend and Kicksclusive Magazine. Ed Lover, DJ AM (R.I.P.), Joell Ortiz, Consequence, CL Smooth, GZA, Evidence, Mickey Factz, Clark Kent, UNI, Pac Div., Dres (Blacksheep), and Ca$his of Shady Records have been among the list of celebrities who have visited the Dunkxchange. BET black Carpet, The History Channel, MSNBC, MTV, 60 Minutes, and many of your everyday popular blogs have joined us. The addition of the Burnitdown Group to helm the PR and marketing end will definitely make the DXC a mainstay. Detroit has been added as a stop on the tour and expect K.I.C. Sounds to be there reppin to the fullest!!!
